Details of Home by Kelly Root

Details of Home is a series of ten photographs of patterns, textures, and memorable bits of my childhood home in Flushing, Michigan and my grandparent’s house in Lennon, Michigan. I revisited these places when I was 25 and photographed remnants from years before. They are left over artifacts; the bike that had not been used in 20 years, the little girl’s light switch with my name on it, my dad’s lunchbox covered in fruit stickers. The photographs are meant to be viewed as large 20” prints to appreciate the nuances of texture or the patina of time. Since photographing this series, my dad has retired, my brother’s bedroom has been redecorated, and my grandparents no longer reside in their home. The photographs have become evidence that these things existed.
